Richard Taylor, Writer

My best pal Jackie and I visited Cambria every opportunity for almost twenty years, and moved here in 2002. Cambria inspired me to write a novel, THE HAUNTING OF CAMBRIA (St. Martin’s Press/TOR, 2007). I completed it Halloween night.

I can’t tell you why Cambria means so much to me, and has an effect on me other beach towns don’t. Part of it is Moonstone Beach, where sunlight and sea dance, creating colors that never repeat. Day to day, sometimes moment to moment, Moonstone Beach and its little bay twist and turn within the spectrum of light, creating hues for every mood, every thought. Stand on its smooth shore or rocky cliff and stare out to sea, you will glimpse eternity created and recreated in waves, clouds, sky and even in gusts of wind which carry news from other places, and other times.

Stand on this shore, and you stand close to whatever it is that is eternal in the human spirit. Close your eyes, look the cosmos in the face. Listen to the crashing waves, hear the moving hand of God whose gestures created us and all living things on this planet.

Stand here, visit yourself.

Welcome to my personal view of the world

Above far left, Santa Rosa Creek in Cambria, CA, my favorite place in the world. Above top, red sky at night, sailor’s delight, from my short film Day on Moonstone Beach. Also above bottom left, Moonstone Beach near Leffingwell Landing, and above right, elephant seals on the beach north of San Simeon.
